Seattle Washington at a glance

If you've never experienced Seattle, Washington, now is as good a time as any. Perhaps now is the best time to visit Seattle. Whatever your interests, you're sure to find something here to appeal to you. From beautiful cultural institutions to amazing sporting events and wonderfully cool weather, Seattle is a great place to visit.

In addition to the beautiful weather, there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep you and anyone traveling with you busy for an extended period of time.

The biggest problem I foresee is finding that there is too much to do and too little time. That's the problem with holidays. Seattle is a city of natural beauty and is surrounded not only by water but also by beautiful nature. It's nothing short of amazing to look around and I'm sure you'll find plenty of things to do to keep everyone in your party happy and entertained.

For those who love culture, there are plenty of opportunities to soak up all the culture you can handle. From wine tours to museums and fine dining, Seattle has a lot to offer discerning visitors. Not to mention Benaroya Hall, where the symphony plays and other cultural experiences such as the Seattle Opera or the Seattle Chamber Music Society. If that's not enough for your sophisticated needs, there's the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Seattle Repertory Theatre.

For those of us who are more concerned with sophomores, there are plenty of things to entertain our minds and hearts. In addition to the activities mentioned above, there are many places to see in Seattle. There are city walks, nature drives and even duck tours that are sure to please the little ones.

For those interested in pop culture, there is the Experience Music Project, which is truly unique and very expensive with a high price tag demanding admission. If you're only going to splurge on one during your trip to Seattle, this is the one I highly recommend. If money is no object, consider yourself blessed to see what this "experience" can give you. Outside the Experience Music Project is the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. As a sci-fi fan, this is my favorite.

If you love animals, Seattle has a lot to offer. Cougar Mountain Zoo, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Seattle Aquarium, Northwest Trek, Wolf Haven and Woodland Park Zoo are available in addition to many whale watching tours.

If you enjoy learning about other cultures, maybe you should visit the International District, take a trip to Tillicum Village, visit the Wing Lake Asian Museum or Uwajimaya Village. Each of these places offers a glimpse into the lives of people from other cultures.

In addition to all of these really fun things, there are professional sports in Seattle almost every season. In basketball, they are the Seattle Sonics (NBA) and the Seattle Storm (WNBA). If your interest lies in football, you'll be happy to know that the Seahawks call Qwest Field their home, and baseball fans will be happy to know that the Seattle Mariners still play at Safeco Field. For hockey fans nearby, the Seattle Thunderbirds, who are part of the Western Hockey League, call Key Arena home.

This is just a small sample of the many great things to do and see while visiting Seattle, Washington. Just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, and it's unlikely that even the fastest among us could take in all that this great city has to offer its visitors in a day. Take your time and remember that if you haven't arrived at one of your destinations today, chances are it will be there tomorrow.
